Dearborn Public Schools

In partnership with Parkside Church of Christ, the Dearborn Public Schools Adult and Community Education Department is able to offer the following English as a Second Language (ESL) Program and General Education Development (GED) Preparation Program.
 

ESL Program
 

ESL Classes are offered for all non-English speaking adults from Beginning to Advanced Levels. All classes include listening, speaking, reading, writing, and numeracy.

Day classes are offered for 2 hours per day, Monday through Friday, for 18 weeks. Classes begin Monday, September 14 and end Friday, December 11, 2009 and are held between 8:30am and 3:00pm.

Evening classes are offered 3 hours per night on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00 to 9:00pm for 15 weeks. Classes begin Tuesday, September 8, and end Thursday, December 17.

The ESL program at Parkside also offers classes to prepare adults to pass the TOEFL. Test (Test of English as a Foreign Language) for admission into post-secondary education; and a Basics of Medical Terminology class for those students interested in building a foundation in English for success in taking classes in a health care profession.

GED Program
 

GED Preparation Classes are offered to anyone wanting to prepare to take the GED Test. Emphasis will be on the five areas of reading, writing, social studies, math, and science.

Day classes are offered for 2 hours per day, Monday through Friday, for 18 weeks. Classes begin Monday, September 14 and end Friday, December 11, 2009 and are held between 8:30am and 3:00pm.

Evening classes are offered 3 hours per night on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00 to 9:00pm for 15 weeks. Classes begin Tuesday, September 8, and end Thursday, December 17.

Students enrolled in the GED Preparation Program are eligible for a reduced testing fee of $75 when testing in Dearborn.

Registration
 

Registration for both programs will begin Monday, August 10.   Students must call  (313) 827-1900 for more information and to set up an appointment.

Classes are free except for a $20 non-refundable fee due at time of registration.

GED Preparation classes have an additional fee of $50 to cover the use of equipment and materials.

All class placements are based on the results of the assessments done at registration.
